Sam Walton has put a simple idea to life: customer first. And to achieve that, he put Walmart staff first. I found this guide for the Walmart buyers great: they are there to negotiate the best price for their clients, not for the company. Great way to look at it and it makes a lot of sense for a discounter. There are clear principles set that are easy to live and his success proves him right. However, the book has been 25 years old and newer biographies, such as the Shoedog from Phil Knights are even better than Walton's book. Still, a good read, but if you have to choose between this book and the Shoedog, take the latter one.
Sam's verhaal over hoe hij Walmart is gestart en tot een retail gigant heeft gebouwd leest als een jongensboek. Met name hoe Sam zelf in zijn vliegtuigje locaties spot vind ik prachtig! Dit is een must read voor iedereen die in retail werkt. Jeff Bezos heeft dit boek goed doorgenomen voordat hij Amazon begon. Amazon's focus op customers komt direct van Sam.
I tend to avoid biographies and books from former managers. They usually describe a highly personal way of going forward. It usually gives a nice perspective on things but rarely translates in a meaningful way to other people. In the worst case it ends up in cherry picking.This book is different and worth a read.
Great read although its over 25 years old, but still valid today on start up and running a multi billion business. Like how it puts associates and customers first.
Extrem gut geschriebene und spannende Autobiografie von Sam Walton, der mit Walmart ein Einzelhandelsimperium aufgebaut hat.Besonders faszinierend waren für mich die Beschreibungen und Beispiele zum Thema Kosteneffizienz (z.B.: Sam Walton flog bis zuletzt Holzklasse), Weitblick (Walmart hatte als erster Einzelhändler ein IT-System, das später die rapide Expansion ermöglichte) und Konkurrenzanalyse (Walton hatte Zeit seines Lebens die Gewohnheit bei Konkurrenten einkaufen zu gehen und die Mitarbeiter dort zu interviewen - er übernahm dann einfach alle guten Ideen, die er dort fand).
wow... also diese geschichte ist sehr informativ. Habe es auf mein Kindle runtergeladen, würde jedem Unternehmer mal empfehlen dieses Buch zu lesen. Was Walmart so auszeichnet, da können einige von uns eine scheibe Abschneiden.
It is very impressive to see how Sam Walton started off small and developed the right culture during difficult times. He was a hands on sells man and there are a lot of practical advices for future sells man.
Hat mir sehr gut gefallen. Es ist super interessant ich wollte schon immer wissen wie Sam Walton das alles geschafft hat. Wir kennen die Läden von Amerika aber es ist nicht mein Geschäft viel zu groß..
